Ridings

The star attraction will be the  the YG's Ridings. This has four operating tracks, two live steam and two Radio controlled electric and its range of scenic sections, some of which will be new additions to the layout. We hope to offer some shunting activities to younger visitors.

16mm layout: Rhydypenderyn

Rhydypenderyn represents a small Welsh station in the early 20th century. It is not based on any particular location but hopefully is representative of rural stations at that time. The 32mm gauge track work is hand built, using brass rail pinned to wooden sleepers. All pointwork is operated by rod and lever, interlinked where necessary. There are a few buildings on the layout, again all hand built. These include a small station, and an engine shed as well as a chapel and cottage typical of the area.

We run a wide variety of locos on the layout.  Most are live steam, often of unusual prototypes and are mainly scratch built. There are one or two diesels and we are sometimes visited by Thomas the Tank Engine and friends - always popular with younger visitors.
